Permitted Units by Building Size
Why is this important?
The housing market is generally seen as one of the first to rise or fall when economic conditions improve or degrade, and building permits are early an indicator of activity in the housing market. New residential housing construction generally leads to other types of economic production [i]. Building permits for privately-owned housing units are counted when they are issued by a jurisdiction, and are additionally delineated by the number of units located in a building from single-family to multi-family. These figures indicate additional housing supply being delivered to a jurisdiction, and variations in the type of permitted housing units may be seen across a region along with trends over time.
